To see more South Africans using what’s in their hearts and hands to help break the cycle of poverty. Too many people are living in abject poverty and it’s not right. God has given all of us gifts and talents and he desires for them to be used to their full potential.
Thusana means ‘help each other’ in Sesotho – and the people that produce the products you’ll find on our platform are doing exactly that. They’re working together to bring hope in situations that others may see as hopeless. Thusana is a celebration of local talent and the tenacity of its people.
The character of a Thusana friend.
Every brand or individual chosen to be part of the Thusana collaboration has been carefully selected. These are people that understand the spirit of ‘ubuntu’ (I am because we are) and have a genuine understanding and heart for helping others. There are 4 character traits we look for:
resilient. Giving up is not an option. They might have been knocked down many times but the passion for what they do and the desire to improve their life makes them get back up.
resourceful. They believe in using what’s in their hands and we respect that.
remarkable. The products they produce are world class. There is no reason for us to buy similar products from anywhere else other than local.
respectful. The materials they use don’t harm our planet and they’re kind to one another – they believe in creating a better world for all.
Our mission is to share the beautiful stories behind every product and brand that has been carefully selected to be part of the Thusana movement. Our hope is that they will inspire you to support these brands and share them with others. So that together we can improve the lives of humble, hard-working people that deserve a better future.
When you choose to buy a Thusana product for the first time, you become part of our beautiful and messy story of changing lives. So we invite you to take your time watching and reading the stories behind the products you’ll find here. Because it’s the people that matter and we’d love them to inspire you to use what’s in your hands and heart to create a better future for those around you.
